About the Book

The Hungry Green Crocodile/El Cocodrilo Verde Hambriento is a fun story that follows a crocodile through out his day as he is trying to find a meal for himself. He encounters a chicken, a horse and a monkey. Each animal is a colour and has an emotion attached to it for a boost of vocabulary. There is a suspenseful countdown before finding out what happens to each animal once they have interacted with the crocodile giving the reader the ability to count to ten in both English and Spanish. There is a nice subtle message of friendship and forgiveness within the story. The bulk of the story utilises regularly used simple verbs that are translatable easily between English and Spanish, this works as a teaching tool for a language learner. There is a 3 key colour code system throughout the story that is explained at the end of the book so that readers can naturally and effortlessly teach their child a second language or learn it in tandem with them whilst going through their bed time reading routine.

The Books Journey

After finishing story time one night with his son's Leo and Luca, Ryan had a Eureka moment of how he was going to teach his sons the Spanish language. He started the writing process so rapidly that his fingers typing couldn’t keep up with his exciting thoughts. In a few nights the story was created and being read to the boys. At story time Leo would ask specifically for the crocodile book. For more than a year it was only Leo, Luca and his wife Elizabeth that knew of the story until one day there was a competition on a new oil rig that Ryan had started working on to draw a logo for that particular rig. Ryan was sat at the dinner table with his friends and a man called Harry showed everyone his entry to the competition. Ryan immediately asked “Have you ever illustrated a children’s book?” to which Harry replied, “Do you know something, I’ve always wanted to.” The story was brought to life with illustrations and Ryan now had a burning desire to publish a book.
